Diabetic Retinopathy and Associated Risk Factors Among Diabetic Patients Attending Eye Camps In Northern Bangladesh

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes vision loss which occurs as a result microvascular complication diabetes. The aim study to assess prevalence and factors associated with development diabetic among patients attending eye camps in hospital northern Bangladesh. Methods: This was population-based cross-sectional study, conducted through five comprehensive at association Nilphamari, Previously diagnosed Diabetes Mellitus were sample this included total 254 participants. All participants underwent complete examination check for any signs DR other ocular abnormalities. Retinopathy determined by fundus photography direct ophthalmoscopy. Participants also interviewed examined determine their demographic characteristics, clinical conditions, awareness on regularity visits. Results: A subjects screened retinopathy. Of them, 64 (25.2%) had including, including 53 (20.9%) non-proliferative (NPDR) 11 (4.3%) proliferative (PDR). Clinically significant macular edema (CSME) detected 7 (2.7%). higher greater duration diabetes (p=< 0.001), poor glycemic control (p=0.002) presence hypertension (p=0.05). Conclusion: Regular screening early detection effective program increasing public are highly recommended JOPSOM 2021; 40(2):16-25
